When the months ending in “-ber” begin to trickle in, some wholeheartedly welcome the cold weather by embracing the latest beauty and fashion finds to hit the market. In contrast, others seek the comfort of old favorites waiting to be rediscovered. We here at Team Byrdie fall into both camps, as evidenced by our wide and varied selection of winter must-haves. Our favorites for this season? Holiday-ready eyeshadows, cozy knits, moisturizing lip products, goes-with-everything boots, and more.

Avène XeraCalm Eczema Calming Relief Balm
I go through countless bottles of Avène every winter thanks to my eczema flare-ups. While I could sing the praises of several Avène skews that help soothe my dry and itchy patches, the brand just launched a new calming balm designed specifically for this situation. The formula has 1% colloidal oatmeal (a hero ingredient known and loved by anyone with atopic dermatitis), which helps soothe itchiness and irritation. It does not sting or burn when applied to extra sensitive areas, and I noticed a visible improvement in my overall redness after each use. Don’t let the title of a balm fool you; this will absorb nicely onto your skin. I even use it in the mornings before makeup. I’m confident this will be a major player in my skincare routine all winter long.
LYS Beauty Triple Fix Blurring and Hydrating Skin Tint Foundation Stick
Historically, I have been a strict liquid complexion product user, but this foundation stick really changed the game for me. It is super blendable and has buildable coverage. The triangle-shaped stick makes it easy to target hard-to-reach areas, like under the eyes, while still offering complete control. I’ve always had a hard time with stick foundations not playing well with my other products, but I have yet to run into any issues with this formula. I keep it in my purse in case I need any touch-ups on the go.
Nette x Crown Affair Take Your Time Candle
I love it when two of my favorite brands collaborate on a product, and it’s even better when you truly are obsessed with what they created. That is how I feel about this Nette x Crown Affair limited edition candle. From the pale green packaging to the fresh floral scent, this candle leaves any room feeling calm and serene. I like to light it when I am decompressing before bed or doing my full beauty routine. This would also be an amazing housewarming or holiday gift for any fellow candle lover. Trust me, and stock up before it sells out.
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Cream
Ever since I was a kid, I have used Aveeno body lotion head-to-toe post-shower. It is a ritual my mom instilled in me since I was a baby due to extra dry skin. Even now, as an adult, something feels wrong if I skip this crucial step of my routine. So when I heard that the brand was coming out with a cream version of their daily moisturizing lotion, I jumped at the chance to try it. The formula has all the best qualities of the lotion but with a slightly thicker texture, which I honestly prefer—especially in the winter. The cream absorbs quickly on the skin without leaving behind a residue. I even use it on my face at night when my skin needs an extra high dose of moisture.

Petal + Pup Zala V-Neck Collar Knit Sweater
If you’re looking for a nice, quality sweater that won’t break the bank, look no further. I sized up for a more relaxed vibe, and I like how it can be styled in many different ways. The material is thick and cozy, and I definitely see myself reaching for this number during the holiday season.
Baobab Ima Dress
As a summer baby, I hate when the temperature drops before 70 degrees. My only saving grace is the fact that I get to wear long-sleeved maxi dresses, and Baobab’s Ima dress fits the bill. I love an element of surprise, and the cut-out detail on the arm gives that cold shoulder vibe without being too daring. From the texture to the fit, this dress is perfect for making a statement all fall and winter long.
Naturium Phyto-Glow Lip Balm in Crimson
I love black cherry everything, especially during this time of year. Naturium’s lip balms never disappoint, and their new moody collection has been my go-to for the last week. The formula contains shea butter and plant squalane, which keeps my lips moisturized and smooth. I don’t find myself needing to reapply every five minutes, which is a win for me.
Brown Girl Jane Discovery Set
I’ve been building a fragrance wardrobe, and after hearing such great things about Brown Girl Jane, I knew I had to try it out. I originally purchased the discovery set so that I could get a whiff of the entire collection. The first scent I tried was Dusk, and I immediately purchased the full-sized bottle. The toasted almond, vanilla orchid, and sandalwood notes work beautifully together. It feels like a warm hug, and the scent lasts all day long.
Josie Maran Vanilla Vibezzz Whipped Argan Oil Refillable Firming Body Butter Jar
Body butter is essential in my routine, and this one by Josie Maran might be the best one I’ve tried all year. It glides on my skin so easily and leaves me with a glow I used to only get from using an oil. After using it, my skin always feels deeply hydrated, and that hydration lasts all day long. I know this product will keep me covered even during the winter when my skin is at its driest.

Quince Cashmere Crewneck Sweater
Fall and winter are all about cozy cashmere—and you can’t beat Quince’s prices. At $50, I’m stocking up on every color (loving Varsity Red in particular for this season). My one tip: size up for an oversized fit.

Makeup by Mario Ethereal Eyes Eyeshadow Palette: Moonlight
The holiday season is the one time of year I consistently wear eyeshadow—what can I say? I’m a total sucker for a bold eye/bold lip party combo. Makeup by Mario’s new Ethereal Eyes is in strong contention for my go-to palette this year. The cool colors are a little unexpected (at least in my warm-leaning collection), and the layout makes putting together looks a breeze: Stick to the left for a classic sparkly neutral, or pick two or three shades from the right for a sexy, smoky look. I’ll probably go more for the latter, paired with a bright red lip for an 80s-inspired maximalist moment.
Maed Beauty Reveal Lip Polish
Speaking of a red lip, Maed Beauty founder Denise Vasi is on a mission to make everyone feel like they can rock one. A crucial element of this is prep work, which is why her initial launch included three products, “The Lip Ritual,” designed to create a smooth, hydrated canvas upon which the Signature Lip Pigment can lay. I’m a fan of the entire collection, but if I had to single out one piece, it’d be the Reveal Lip Polish. Instead of washing off like most lip scrubs—which can dry your lips out even more—this delicious, coffee-flavored polish transforms into a balm after you rub it in. I’ve been using it pretty much daily since receiving it, and my desert-dry lips have never felt more moisturized. Let’s bring on matte lippie season!
Steve Madden Brocks Moto Boot
I’ve been on Boot Watch™ for a few months now, keeping tabs on which styles will be trending for fall/winter. I’ll certainly be wearing cowboy and square-toed silhouettes over the next few months, but I might be most excited about a category I haven’t really dipped into since high school: Moto boots. This pair from Steve Madden is about as Brat/Y2K revival as it gets: For the fall, they’re just begging to be paired with a mini skirt and oversized belt, and come winter, they’ll look so good with a shearling-lined motorcycle jacket and maxi skirt. Who knows—I might even get back into a pair of skinny jeans just to really let these gorgeous boots take center stage. (2010 Eden would definitely “Like” this status.)

Glossier You Rêve Eau de Parfum
As a major fan of the original Glossier You perfume, I was thrilled to learn about the new additions to the You family. This one maintains the integrity of the original while adding a subtle gourmand component that gives the fragrance the perfect amount of sweetness. It’s warm and cozy (perfect for this time of year) while being subtle enough for every day.
Dior Forever 24H Skin Contour Stick Sculpting and Bronzing Face Stick
I love to add a subtle contour back into my makeup routine come fall and winter. This is my new favorite, thanks to the creamy, easy-to-blend formula that sculpts my features without looking too harsh. It offers a natural finish on the skin, layers beautifully over any foundation, and lasts all day long.
Youth To The People Superfruit Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser with Vitamin C + Papaya
As someone with oily skin, I want a cleanser that removes excess oil and grease without stripping my skin. This one does that and more; the lush texture lathers beautifully, removing oil with ease while leaving my skin balanced and my complexion looking radiant.

Bounce Curl Define EdgeLift Brush
Like many people, Bounce Curl’s Define EdgeLift Brush has been all over my TikTok FYP for months. Two months ago, I decided to finally give it a try. The patented tool features unique lateral edges, which help to separate and define your curls. After washing my hair, I sectioned my curls, applied my styling products (a cream and a gel), and worked the brush through. The brush gently glides through your hair while still enhancing its definition because of its flexible round-tip bristles. While my hair was wet, I could see that it helped to smooth and clump my curls. Once my curls were dry, I was truly impressed with how they turned out. They were springy, ultra-defined, and less frizzy than usual. In other words, the hype is real about this brush.
Pound Cake Cake Theory Lip Tone Equalizing Oil
I’m a longtime fan of Pound Cake’s Cake Batter Liquid Lipstick, so I couldn’t wait to try the new Cake Theory Lip Tone Equalizing Oil. It comes in two shades—Melted Butter (a yellow hue) and Browning (a purplish brown). This lip oil is a must-try for several reasons. First and foremost, the innovative formula. Pound Cake’s Cake Theory Lip Tone Equalizing Oil is made with ingredients that even out your lip tone, boost moisture (a major plus during winter), and reduce fine lines. It also feels incredibly comfortable to wear—it’s smooth, buttery, and non-sticky. I find myself reaching for the Melted Butter shade daily now when I want to condition my lips and add a subtle shine to them.
Olaplex No. 10 Bond Shaper Curl Defining Gel
I got to experience Olaplex’s new in-salon Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding Treatment earlier this year, and towards the end of the service, my stylist used the No.10 Bond Shaper Curl Defining Gel on my hair. It’s made with the brand’s bond-building technology, a curl retention compound (made of polymers, plant collagen, and sugars), and coconut avocado hair milk. The formula promises to relink disulfide bonds in your hair, provide 72-hour frizz control, and give your curls a lasting medium hold. That’s everything my hair needs during the winter, as the chilly temperatures and cold winds can make my hair feel dry and frizzy. I’ve continued using this on my curls at home, and my hair always looks so smooth, defined, and not the least bit crunchy. This gel definitely lives up to its claims, making it a product worth keeping in my wash day routine this winter and beyond.
Vince Camuto Seshon Boot
When it comes to winter fashion staples, black boots are high on the list. I found the perfect pair at DSW—these Vince Camuto Seshon Boots— and I’ll be wearing them all season long. The square toe gives them such a modern and stylish edge, and the block heel makes them comfy enough to wear anywhere (from holiday dinner parties to the office).

Typology Tinted Lip Oil in Black Cherry
Black cherry shades are all the rage this fall and winter (and my personal aesthetic *every* time the cooler months roll around), so I’ve found myself excitedly hunting for vampy launches to swipe on all season. While the options in this delightfully dark shade are plentiful, my favorite so far is this one from Typology, which hydrates while applying an effortless dose of dark cherry—which you can, of course, enhance in tandem with a liner and/or lipstick. This lip oil is one of the most genuinely non-sticky I’ve tried, plus I’ve found that my lips feel consistently softer and more nourished from wearing it regularly.
Evolvetogether x Joanna Czech Rosemary Enzyme Cleanser
I recently had the absolute pleasure of getting a facial from Joanna Czech, who used this rosemary cleanser alongside a number of other products and treatments customized to my skin’s needs. This powder-to-foam formula makes for a luxe experience that removes impurities and excess oils without stripping your skin barrier, creating that gentle yet effective balance we all want. Additionally, Czech advised me that the product can also work as an overnight treatment to calm breakouts and irritation—I tried this on a few areas that were acting up and can confirm it helped.
Vera Bradley Square Silk Scarf
I was a huge fan of Vera Bradley’s signature floral and paisley bags growing up, and while my style has since evolved to a mostly black New York aesthetic, I have been trying out the label’s recent rebrand via this silk scarf. Chic little neck scarves are a staple for me during transitional seasons (and unseasonably warm winter days), and this neutral floral print adds an interesting contrast to my outfits without feeling like too much. Since the beauty of scarves lies in their versatility, I imagine this one would also look great on a bag or as part of a hairstyle—and I may experiment with these myself.
Ortega Ethereal Glow Balm in Ice Queen
Ortega—the eponymous line by celebrity MUA Etienne Ortega—is decidedly one of my favorite new brands of 2024. The lip products from the initial launch have been in my rotation for months, but more recently, I gave the Ethereal Glow Balm in Ice Queen a try when I wanted a cool-toned highlighter to go with my makeup look for Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s Sweat Tour. I loved the formula and its dewy, radiant finish so much that I’ve continued to play with it for other makeup looks in the weeks since—plus, it’s multi-use, so you can apply it to your cheeks, lips, collarbone, and wherever else you want it for a cohesive glow.

Make Beauty Inner Tube Plumping Lip Treatment
I love the effect of lip plumpers (especially now that my filler is wearing off), but I have super dry lips, and traditional plumpers are often just too painful. This little pot is magic—it has the puddingy texture of a delicious lip mask and hydrates and plumps with B3 and hyaluronic acid. It has a tiny, tiny bit of tingle, but it mostly relies on Maxilip and peptides to plump instantly and over time. My lips have been more hydrated and pouty, and it’s definitely a new winter staple.
Maya No. 1 Perfume Oil
I am a true summer girl, and I’m already dealing with the effects of the fall and winter blues, so it’s important to have some products that transport me to summer. This fragrance oil is my latest favorite. The scent is a little hard to describe—it’s beachy and sunny but not cloying or fake. It’s like fresh coconuts, tropical flowers, and a lot of skin-like musk for a cozy, soft fragrance that smells like sunshine. One whiff is all it takes to transport me to a balmy beach day.

Hill House Home The Ellie Nap Dress in Navy Equestrian Toile
Card-carrying members of “Nap Dress Nation” will remember that last fall, Hill House Home dropped a stunning equestrian toile print that sold out in mere seconds. So, naturally, when Miss House returned with a just as stunning navy equestrian print this fall, I had to nab it. It’s an extremely versatile piece that can be layered with anything from cardigans and turtlenecks to boots and sneakers.
Touchland Power Mist Hydrating Hand Sanitizer in Salted Caramel
The urge to buy limited-edition, seasonal flavors is long-engrained in my DNA—and who am I to stop the urge? Especially when the options this year are just so good. Touchland’s Hand Sanitizer in Salted Caramel is the quintessential example of seasonal scents done right. Oh-so-nostalgic, this sanitizer smells just like a caramel-enrobed apple you picked up from an orchard farm stand, with cider, cinnamon, gooey caramel, and warm amber notes. In fact, I’ll be stocking up and rationing this one as I don’t want to go a week without it.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant
As someone with dry skin year-round, entering the colder season means that I have to ramp up my hydration efforts. I’ve been loving this heavy-duty nourishing balm from Elizabeth Arden, which has a waxy texture that soothes my dry, chapped skin immediately after application. It’s truly versatile, and I can apply it everywhere, from my lips to cuticles and even drier patches on my body, for smooth and soft skin.
Saie Lip Liner 101 in Tease
I’ve always been a clear lip gloss girl, but recently, I’ve wanted to try a more dramatic lip. This lip liner from Saie has been the perfect product to guide me through that transition. This shade is a more cool-toned brown that looks natural on my lip tone but adds a little more oomph to my everyday look, and I’ve loved using it for a night out. It’s long-lasting and stays on my lips even after my main lip color has faded. It’s even noticeable under darker, richer colors, so I plan on using it all winter long.
D.S. & Durga Murder Mystery Perfume Layering Set
While I love a lightweight perfume in the summertime, I always bring out my stronger, more woodsy fragrances for the fall and winter. I’ve been using this layering set from D.S. & Durga recently, and I think the scents are all perfect for the colder weather. You can make multiple combinations from the six scents included, and (somehow) they all smell amazing together—but also are lovely on their own. They have every profile from floral to fruity to woodsy, so there’s really something for everyone.

Kiseki Molecular Repair Leave-In Hair Masque
Ever since I dyed my mullet platinum blonde for the summer, she’s required lots of maintenance. This leave-in hair mask, though, has fundamentally changed my maintenance routine, leaving my mullet stronger in just a few steps. In addition to having a pleasantly subtle hinoki scent, this hair mask makes my hair feel and look like virgin hair—moisturized, undamaged, and healthier than ever. My mullet has bounced back, and it’s all thanks to this hair mask.
Initio Atomic Rose
I pride myself on my devotion to skin scents, but this perfume from Initio is making me rethink everything. Atomic Rose is the antithesis of a skin scent: sexy, bright, and so intoxicating that random strangers stop you on the subway to ask what you’re wearing. With notes of Bulgarian rose, Turkish rose, and bergamot, this eau de parfum has quickly become my go-to “going out” scent—that kind of scent that isn’t afraid to command attention but also effortlessly overpowers the stench of a crowded bar.
TirTir Hydro Boost Enzyme Powder Wash
This enzyme cleanser has changed my stance on cleansing powders. On top of forming the perfect amount of lather, it gently exfoliates my skin and leaves it feeling refreshed without any dryness. Since introducing this into my double cleansing routine, I’ve found that my skin feels smoother than ever, which makes for the perfect canvas for makeup. Yet another K-beauty win.
Eve Lom Time Retreat Daily Rejuvenating Cream
To me, skincare is all about those little luxuries that give your skin the love it deserves. Lately, this moisturizer has been one of them: With a delicate rose scent, it feels like I’m tucking my skin into bed with a cozy cashmere blanket. In addition to immediate hydration, this moisturizer has made my skin feel more supple and plump than ever.
